In a UK first, special and gala screenings will feature the winners of <\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\">Europe&#8217;s<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"> top three festivals: <\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\">Sean Baker\u2019s \u201cAnora\u201d<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"> (Cannes Palme d&#8217;Or), <\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\">Pedro Almod\u00f3var\u2019s \u201cThe Room Next Door\u201d<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"> (Golden Lion at Venice), and <\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\">Mati Diop\u2019s \u201cDahomey\u201d<\/span><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"> (Golden Bear at Berlinale), a documentary chronicling the resonant return of African treasures from France to Benin. Among the standouts are <\/span><span>Dea Kulumbegashvili\u2019s \u201cApril\u201d<\/span><span>(the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival), which portrays the life of an obstetrician within rural <\/span><span>Georgia\u2019s<\/span><span>patriarchal society, and <\/span><span>Maura Delpero\u2019s \u201cVermiglio,\u201d<\/span><span> also set in a mountainous region, but in Italy. The <\/span><span>\u201cDebate\u201d<\/span><span> section spotlights <\/span><span>\u201cInvasion,\u201d<\/span><span> a new project by Ukraine\u2019s preeminent documentarian <\/span><span>Sergei Loznitsa<\/span><span>. This national portrait set against the backdrop of war serves as a natural progression from his 2014 work <\/span><span>\u201cMaidan.\u201d<\/span><span> <\/span><span>Asif Kapadia&#8217;s &#8220;2078&#8221;<\/span><span>offers a somber reflection on humanity&#8217;s present and potential future, reminiscent of <\/span><span>Chris Marker\u2019s<\/span><span> style. Based on recent reviews from the Toronto Film Festival, <\/span><span>\u201cHard Truths\u201d<\/span><span> is a tragicomedy typical of <\/span><span>Leigh<\/span><span>, exploring the vulnerabilities and resilience of the ordinary person in modern society.
