By inserting these recognizable<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">yet dislocated symbols into a historically barren setting<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">Chernyshev catalyzes<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">a transfiguration of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">environment<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> from spatial convention to one of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201c<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">strangeness<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">,<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201d <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">prob<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ing<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> the boundaries between the familiar and the foreign. Given that the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">core<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">his<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">art<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">lies in<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> practices of contemplative, cognition-driven observation, it<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u2019<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s unsurprising that <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">his<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> site-specific installations<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u2014<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">haphazardly affixed in the forest<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> and<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> doomed <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">for<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> obscurity<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u2014<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">demand to be <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201c<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">wanted to be seen<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">: u<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">ntil recently, one had to contact the artist <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">directly <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">through his website to obtain <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">coordinates of these <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201c<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">unearthly places.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> In the exhibition&#8217;s smaller hall, a carousel projector cycles through photo documentation<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">of the<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">se<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s4\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> \u201c<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">underground<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201d <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">practices<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"><\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">along<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">side<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> other projects spanning the artist&#8217;s decade-long career.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_37284\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37284\" presented within the exhibition further exemplify th<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">e<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> artist<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u2019<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s preoccupation <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">with<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> meditative, contemplative art<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u2014<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">work that necessitates a recalibration of perception<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> His <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201c<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">dark screens<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u201d<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> or hard-to-traverse landscapes<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">emerge <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">through<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> the <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">process of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">rubbing carbon paper pigment onto textured white <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">sheets, a <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">technique that implies a degree of experimentation and prolonged interaction with the emerging topographies<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">T<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">he dynamic traces of their making lead to paper<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">cuts, surface<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">destruction, and<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">consequen<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">tly<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">, the formation <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">physical volume<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> effects <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">evocative<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">natural phenomena<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u2014<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">rippling waters, smoky skies, meteor showers, air style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> graphic pieces, Chernyshev <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">has created<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> a mural across the gallery<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u2019<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> wall: <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">a scattering of barely<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">perceptible silver stars adrift<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">against a field<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> of <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">white.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> While <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">eschewing<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">the sort of<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> flashy visual effects, <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">this image<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">serves to balance the exhibition, mediating between the thematic poles that drive <\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">the artist<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u2019<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\"> practice<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">\u2014<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s2\" style=\"letter-spacing: 0em;\"><span class=\"bumpedFont15\">spontaneity and control, the finite and the infinite, entropy and creation.
