<\/a>Heathers was turned into a musical in 2010 by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe. The musical retains the dark humour and themes of the original film, while incorporating twist and an engaging core.<\/p>\n
The story follows Veronica Sawyer as she confronts the complexities of high school life, including the pressures of popularity and the dark side of teen relationships. The musical features a mix of upbeat songs and poignant ballads, highlighting the teenagers’ struggles and emotions.<\/p>\n
Key characters include Veronica, J.D., and the three Heathers: Heather Chandler, Heather Duke, and Heather McNamara. The musical addresses themes such as bullying, mental health, and identity, making it relevant to modern audiences.<\/p>\n The tour this year started on the 22nd of May at @sohoplace in London. Picked and directed by Andy Fickman, here are the actors who flawlessly sang and acted in the show:<\/p>\n Jenna Innes (@jennainnes<\/a>), playing Veronica Sawyer. She proudly hails from Aberdeen and returned this year to Heathers, having starred in the musical as Veronica last year. Jenna studied at The Musical Theatre Academy, where she was nominated for Best Actress in a New Musical for her past role in Animus.<\/p>\n Keelan Mcauley (@keelan.mcauley<\/a>), playing Jason ‘J.D.’ Dean, grew up in the small Canadian town of Calgary and graduated from the Guildford School of Acting at the University of Surrey.<\/p>\n Esme Bowdler (@Esmebowdler<\/a>), playing Heather Chandler, has studied at the Arts Educational school, London. She graduated in 2021 and was recently a finalist of ITV’s Mamma Mia! I have a Dream.<\/p>\n Sedona Sky (@sedona.sky<\/a>), playing Heather Duke, studied at the Arts Educational School, London and will be graduating this year.<\/p>\n Daisy Blanche Twells (@princessdaisyblanche<\/a>), playing Heather Mcnamara. After previously appearing in the 2021 UK and Ireland tour of Heathers, she was thrilled to return this year. Daisy grew up studying at her mum’s dance school, Caroline Green Dance & Theatre Arts, and then attended The Hammond School for 5 years.<\/p>\n Lucy Sinclair (@lucysinclair1<\/a>), playing Ms. Fleming and Veronica’s Mum, graduated from the Arts Educational School, London in 2004.<\/p>\n Amy Miles (@amykathrynmiles<\/a>), playing Martha Dunnstock, is currently studying in Urdang Academy, making Heathers her professional debut.<\/p>\n Iv\u00e1n Fern\u00e1ndez Gonz\u00e1lez (@ivanfergon<\/a>), playing Kurt Kelly, was ecstatic to return to Heathers, as it was his first musical ever in 2021. He studied at the Guildford School of Acting.<\/p>\n Jason Battersby (@jason.battersby<\/a>), playing Ram Sweeney. Jason studied at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.<\/p>\n Connor McFarlane, playing Ram’s dad, Big Bud Dean (J.D.’s Dad) and Coach Ripper. Connor is an actor and writer from the North West of Ireland who studied at the Royal Academy of Music.<\/p>\n Alexander Service (@alex<\/span>ander_service<\/a>), playing Kurt’s dad, Veronica’s dad and Principal Gowan. After playing international grade rugby and becoming a mechanical engineer, Alexander started his acting career later in life than most. Prior to his training at the London School of Musical Theatre, he performed in several musical theatre productions in New Zealand, after having originally moved there to play rugby.<\/p>\n The great ensemble includes Ben Fenwick, Lewis Asquith, Bradly Doko, Jasmine Cole, Kelly Sweeney, Eliza Bowden, May Tether and Madeleine Hargrave.<\/p>\n Heathers became popular due to all the catchy songs like Beautiful, Candy Store, Fight for Me, Freeze Your Brain, Big Fun, Dead Girl Walking, The Me Inside of Me, You’re Welcome, Never Shut Up Again, and Our Love is God in act 1. Act 2 includes My Dead Gay Son, Seventeen, Shine a Light, Lifeboat, Shine a Light (reprise), I Say No, Hey Yo Westerburg (not recorded), Kindergarten Boyfriend, Yo Girl, Meant to Be Yours, Dead Girl Walking (reprise) and Seventeen (reprise).<\/p>\n This tour wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Andy Fickman, the director, and Gary Lloyd, the choreographer.<\/p>\n We fans will, of course, miss this tour and its incredible cast.
